Hooker Goes Pro!

In case you haven’t seen these gangster curls all over the internet, it’s true.. Matt Hooker’s new Pro Model skate is all over the country in a shop near you! Remote Wakeskates is proud to announce Matt on their pro team. We got Ben Horan to ask Hooker a few questions about the big promotion and what’s been going on in his life. Check it outtttttt.

BH- So, now you have a board with Remote whats that like? Moving up to the poor ranks like every other pro wakeskater!

MH- Yeah it’s awesome, I always wanted to have my own board for sure!

BH- Ever since the announcement of your first board with Remote you were stacking clips and partying hard until it came to an end with the infamous creek leap. Rumors have it you had a good week with the ladies, too! But, how’s your foot after the leap?

MH- Yeah man, I was on fire that week! I was feeling it! I just thought I was invincible. I had to go for the creek jump and it didn’t work out. I made it one time, then slipped out the second. Now, I’m just chillin. I’ll be back on top again.

BH- I heard you only have a few days left of school, what’s college life all about?

MH- Yeah baby, all done. AC tech – two days left! I’ve been going to school, like college.. for four years. Dabbled around in Valencia for a little bit, then moved on to AC tech. Now I’m all done.

BH- Are you hyped for More Than Machines to come out? I feel like people are going to flip when they see where you are taking wakeskating.

MH- Yeah, I hope so. I hope a bunch of people like it and like the stuff that we are trying to do.

BH- What do you think about when you get to a winch spot? How do you decide.. “I’m going to boardslide the side of M Gap or ollie out to the ledge at Oak Leaf..”

MH- I just don’t feel like doing the same tricks down it. And it looked more fun to slide that ledge!

BH- I think one of the gnarliest tricks this year was that gap to front board at Oak Leaf. Didn’t it take you a couple trips to finally get it?

MH- I went there a couple times and I always looked at that ledge and I just kept ollieing next to it. I tried to get onto it one time and it wasn’t that bad. So I just keep going for it. I definitely took some pretty bad falls on it but I finally stuck it. It was ill!

BH- You have a lot of nicknames–Hooks, Hooker, Nascar Matt, Party Matt, Bucket Head, Hook Nasty, Hook Steez. Which ones your favorite?

MH- Haha, I don’t know. I got a lot more than I thought! Probably Nascar Matt!

BH- This is off the record but, do you got your mind right, right now?

MH- Um, I took a bong hit with Stu (Shinn) earlier.

BH- Being a Long Island native – Is New York pizza that much better than Florida pizza?

MH- Yeah, 10 times better!

BH- What’s so different about it?

MH- The dough, baby! And you can get all the NYC hotdogs with all the shit on it! Actually, I just made a hotdog I put a bunch of shit on! Double dog on one bun and some grilled onions on it too, kinda crazy! Mush dog.

BH- What was one of your favorite filming trips for More Than Machines?

MH- Damn, so many! It’s tough to pick which one. Either, one of the ohio trips or the Alabama trip, that was pretty awesome. I don’t know they were all pretty sick. We rode dirty and never got busted. There are some epic stories from those trips. You just had to be there!

BH- What’s some of the music you like to get hyped up on to go downtown, wakeskate, whatevs?

MH- You know if were going to go out you can allways throw on those club beats. I don’t even know, I have been jamming out to some sick music lately.

BH- You checking out that iPod list right know?

MH- I’m looking at it, haha. I’ve been listening to Drug Rug a bunch. I listen to them on my bike rides. You know Keisha for going D.T.!

BH- What’s your view on the contest scene right now?

MH- Fuck contests. I don’t know, they are always stupid. I just dont really like them that much I always get screwed over! But probably not!

BH- Now that you have a pro board is there any plans for a pro shoe with Teva?

MH- We’re working on it baby! It’s coming out. It’s going to be huge next year! The shoe is called Gnarkosi! It’s a koozie for your gnar!

BH- What’s the deal for this summer? Got any sweet plans you want people to know about?

MH- I’m going on a road trip from Florida to California with all the Anenberg guys. I think your going and all the homies out there Kyle (Walton) and Reed (Watson)! Freestyling from there. I don’t really have any plans, just going to winch all the spots to there and in between! Oh, and I’m going to Germany!
