WAKEBOARDS ARE FLYING IN VALENCIA, SPAIN

It’s a reality. For the whole weekend the City of Arts and Science in Valencia has become in the best wakeboard spot in Spain. 24 of the best national and international riders will be competing today and tomorrow in the event Red Bull Art of Wake. “The location is incredible, it seems imposible that in the middle of a city you can build such a venue. Moreover, the level of the riders is very high. I’m sure this is going to be fun,” says Raph Derome, one of the main participants of this event. Alongside him we’ll be able to watch Spain’s Jaime Martínez, Russia’s Nikita Martianov and American Marc Rossiter.

The Red Bull Art of Wake is an invitational wakeboard competition where riders will surf the 200-meter long area located beside the Príncipe Felipe Museum of Science, thanks to two cableski machines. There, the organizers have built several modules and ramps the riders will have to face that will also help them make their best tricks. In addition to the ramps, there is also a granstand for 1,200 people, so the Valencian audience will be able to see the action first-hand for free. Modules like the elevated pool, the bomb or the double kicker will be a challenge for the riders, who, for sure, will give their best to complete their best tricks there.

The competition is divided into two phases. On Friday the 8th there will be the qualifying rounds, from 6pm to 9pm. The best 16 riders from these rounds will fight for the Best Trick prize, on Friday night. Also, these 16 riders will fight for victory in the final round, on Saturday the 9th, from 6.30pm to 23pm.

NEVER RODE A WAKEBOARD? TRY IT!

Beside the pool where the competition is hold, there will be a ‘winch’, a tackle with a cable, that will allow the audience to take their first steps in the wakeboard world in this unique location. Besides, a scientist from the City or Arts and Science will talk about the principles that allow the wakeboards not to sink or how to become faster on a wakeboard. A hint of this is that the principles of Archimedes and Bernoulli and the Venturi Effect are related.
